Isn't that the truth. In the end, anything in this game is only "worth" what you can get someone to pay you for it, in spite of the pricelists. Sometimes you get lucky and get more, but usually it's less. Sometime far less.

I'm a GwG Auction user, so I relist items that I expect to sell for 5k+ 2 times. If they do not sell, I will then take them (weapons or mods) and spam for 1k each. Whatever doesn't sell by the time I'm tired of spamming (which in my case isn't very long) I merchant.

i thought everyone wanted the inscriptions and stated how wonderful it would be and improve trading.
well, i quit gw before nightfall and when i came back and camped la for a while the trading there is awful. trading in gw has got miles worse.

Gwguru's prices are if you can find an e-bay buyer or no-life farmer.
The common player working normally for his gold not only can't buy at listed prices, but won't since it represent a too big investement just for braggin' rights.
But yes, sometimes you find people who bought 1000k on ebay and pay cash for a rare skin.

any max greens i get i sell...even if its for only 1k. with nightfall gold weapons, if it isnt req 8-10 it goes straight to the merchant unless its a really rare skin, but not before salvaging anything worth salvaging. for uninscriptable golds, pretty much if it isnt 15^50, i salvage what i can and then sell to merchant.

Everything you sell that is not a weapon is either a slight discount off the merch price or a slight bump over what the merchant will pay for it. That is pretty simple.
Weapons are very specialized and hard to sell unless they are extremly rare. I find that I can sell certain mods easily +30HP, sword pommels, axe hafts, and bow grips. But only the +30 ones fetch the higher price, anythin less is not "leet" enough for most buyers.

I'm with everyone else really. I'm bit of a hoarder and i've kept nearly every gold i've found so far, but 2 pvp storage characters later i'm running out of room.
As i'm still fairly new i'm not even sure whats useful and whats worthless and I don't really wany to merc something off, that might be of great value to someone else. I've tried going through the price check guides, but thats pretty general.
I'd like to see a better trading system in GW, something like a shop you submit your items to and other players can browse through or the mentioned auction house in game. It would help anyway.

i pretty much sell everything to the merchant. i sell greens, golds, rare materials, and instriptions.
i cannot stand sitting around trying to sell loot to ppl. i know i lose out on a lot of money, but it is worth it.

Okay, not to sound like a total noob here, but how do you auction stuff - do you post it here, and then when you have the "winner", meet them at some place and time?

i usually spend one day a week (saturday or sunday) just selling off my crap. skip between LA, KC, Kamadan, and maybe Droks, then post the leftovers on guru if i have any left. i usually don't have a problem clearing my inventory that way. and i always sell below guru's low-ball prices. i'd rather sell the item for a few plats less than usual than not sell the item at all!

I always used to just give half-way decent stuff away but now I merch it all. I got tired of people adding me to their f-list and then contantly bugging me for more stuff.
It kind of sucks getting 200gold from a merch for an item you could sell for 2-5k to a player, but it's worth it just to avoid all the wts hassle.

GWG Price Check Stickies/ Guides are you referring to??? Or are you referring to the price checks given??? Or both???
Please enlighten me as to what is considered a "normal" way of making gold.

Once or twice I've tried to spam some golds (nf nightmare stuff and some greens) as well as some minipets to no avail.
I agree that standing there with a spam going for more than 10 minutes is depressing.
I think the inscriptions thing however is great, the fact that I can go get a 5plat crafted blue and inscribe it to something really cool is fantastic for players without much money, and suits guildwars style of being a game where farming and grinding don't get you any more than cosmetic rewards.
It does mean that, like one poster said, if it's not +30HP but +29HP, you'll never sell it.
Just accept it.
Either give away the +29 to noobs (it's not too hard to find people asking quite basic questions about the game that wouldn't if they were a low level alt) and just gear them up and support them. That's gotta be worth 1 or 2k

Generally, I love money, so if I can get 5k out of a mod/inscription - its getting sold.
Anything under 5k worth, I might try to sell a few times if its a popular thing like 15^50, then merchant it after a minute..
Weapons - If its req isnt 8 or 9 it gets the merchant (except if its a rare rare skin I guess), and even if it is req9- It still gets merchanted 99% of the time after a few minutes trade spam (mostly because its a common skin). Weapons are just worthless to try to sell..
Fragorders - Auction HOuse really doesn't change much. If WoW is any indicator - what'll happen is you'll put the item in the AHouse, then have to stand in town anyway spamming "Selling [Whatever] In Auction House!" to get anyone to buy it :\

I am like most I have stuff in my inventory taking up space I haven't listed it yet on the Guru Auction and in Ventri's.I prefer not to take little SS of it and just list it.There are times when I without the inventory space on a quest or mission and leave my drops behinds if they don't look good.I am not one to stand in p[laces like LA and go WTS as i don't have the Patients for it.I would say some are asking way to much for their stuff as with future camps coming down the road that will decrease the value of weapons and what not.
The only time I will sell to merchants is if I really need the inventory space to get rid of some clutter and it would be nice to have mini pet storage like hat storage.

Games become boring to me when drops are not interesting. I hated City of Heroes because there were no drops, and got bored of it quickly. Now I'm getting bored with Guild Wars because once you get your max armor and weapon, there is not much to get excited about anymore. Max inscriptions and expensive runes are nice, but are not nearly as important to have as people make them out to be.
The whole loot part of the game is about vanity, aquiring new skins, minipets, and other useless junk. Most people do not want to spend loads of hard-earned money on vanity garbage.
This is why it is hard to sell drops, because for the most part it is only worth what the merchant is paying for it.
Since I have not found interest in the PvP side of Guild Wars, and the PvE is weak compared to most other MMO's out there, I think I will be moving on. Without nice unique weapons and armor that actually make a difference to the playability of your character, this game has become stale real quick.
If there are no drops or quest rewards that actually mean anything(besides vanity) then there is nothing of importance to work for in the game, and if there is nothing to work for, then why play? Now I am back to having the same problem I had with City of Heroes...
Sorry to take this somewhat off-topic, but you guys sparked something in my head that I have been thinking about alot in the past few weeks.

Every gold I've gotten I've sold to the merchant, save for a crystalline. So I never really say "the heck with it".
